Epiphany Elementary reading adventures supported by Coles

May 22, 2012

Epiphany Elementary was hugely excited last month to welcome Glynis Barrett of Coles in the Village Mall as the store was generous enough to select Epiphany for their Adopt- -a-School program. Ms. Barrett came out to deliver nearly $900 worth of new books to the excited hands of our young readers. In recognition of this important contribution an assembly was held to say a huge thank you for helping further the school's mission to build strong students with a lifelong love of reading.

Random Act of Kindness from South of the 49th

May 22, 2012

Everyone has a skip in their step on a Friday morning. However, Holly Sharpe and the staff of Brother Rice Junior High School received an extra bounce on the morning of Friday, April 20, 2012. Holly had the pleasure and privilege to travel to Chicago earlier this term and being the conscientious student that she is, she had brought her Social Studies textbook with her to study while on the plane. Much to her chagrin, Holly left her textbook on the plane and while subsequently following up with the airline was not successful in locating it. Nevertheless, random acts of kindness are alive and well! An unknown passenger hailing from Ankeny, Iowa took it upon them self to mail Holly's textbook to Brother Rice Junior High and it arrived to everyone's surprise with an unsigned note. This random passenger took the time and money to package the textbook and send it to our fair province. Random acts of kindness really do make a difference in the lives of unsuspecting people and Brother Rice Junior High and Holly's family will be sending a card of thanks to the anonymous fellow passenger's return address. How is that for a Social Studies lesson in global citizenship?
